“DON'T WASTE YOUR LOVE ON SOMEBODY,
WHO DOESN'T VALUE IT”
First comes love, then comes marriage, then...things don't always work out as planned.
With a run time of just 60 minutes, ‘Shakespeare Without Tears: Romeo and Juliet' makes an impact both inside and outside of the classroom. We introduce students to the famous lovers through a captivating, engaging and interactive performance. Timeless themes of newfound love, life, destiny and more are explored in both classical Shakespearian and modern language and context so young audiences can better relate to the play’s themes and lessons and teachers can relate them back to their own units of inquiry.
"The performance of “Romeo and Juliet” by the Flying Bookworm Theatre Company was exceptional. Their portrayal of the events in the play was expertly suited to the audience and allowed us to take an in-depth look into Shakespeare’s world. Never a dull moment!"
– Sharman, Glen Waverley Secondary College

WE ARE DRIVEN BY A DESIRE TO IGNITE STUDENTS' JOY & UNDERSTANDING OF SHAKESPEARE.
The Flying Bookworm Theatre Company’s performances are relatable and engaging springboards for students to better grasp the language, characters, humour and themes of each work so that they’re playfully encouraged to explore and find joy in reading and the English language. Through our dynamic 60-minute versions of Shakespeare’s works, we de-mystify elements of each play or sonnet to help create a greater connection to his works and how they still resonate today.

A scene we first portray more traditionally is followed by a similar scenario that projects Shakespeare into a modern setting to allow students to relate to and engage with the text.
Actors present scenes from the mindset of current-day figures familiar to students.
We explain, analyse and discuss scenes as we present them — our form of a more enticing and engaging scaffolding method of learning Shakespeare.
We highlight significant social and historical scenarios and commentary.
Student volunteers have the opportunity to act out scenes to help make Shakespeare more accessible and interactive for students on stage and in the audience.
Each presentation includes a rapid-fire, four-minute, absorbing summary of the plot. Time us!
A Q & A session with the actors helps teachers integrate this Shakespearean experience with class work to help make your job as easy as possible. We help do the work for you, and we love every minute of it!
We provide online class activities, questions and reflections that can be downloaded to provide the focus for further study.
